General Do's

1. Always get at least 3 quotations for both labour and materials.
2. If in doubt about anything, ask questions.
   
3. Make sure that you use a reputable engineer when needed. They will sign off on any work done and then and only then should you make a stage payment.
   
4. Make sure that you contact the references provided by the trades people.
   
5. Remember the cheapest quote does not necessarly provide the best value for money in the long run. However sometimes it can be great value for money.
   
6. Just because a quote is more expensive does not mean that the quality will be better.
   
7. Compare apples with apples. Make sure that you are being quoted for the same work by the different trades and or material suppliers.
   
8. Some trades will provide their own equipment for example cement mixers, scaffolding etc this will save you money on plant hire.
   
9. Make sure that the quote includes vat. Labour should be @13.5% and materials should be @ 21.5%.
